Here's Gertie on the job in 1976 Gertie started out as a normal kid in Vermont’s dairy farm country, where she stayed until 1974. Then she moved to FL to be near her parents who had moved there to retire. She took a job waiting tables at a truckstop off I75, where she eventually got fired for slapping the fire out of a driver who got smart with her. She didn’t let that bother her too bad. In fact, she thanked her boss for firing her. “Now I can go on to better things.” She said.
She talked a driver friend into teaching her to drive, and finally landed a job driving an old Mack pulling a tanker. She stayed pulling tankers for the next 15 years. Meanwhile, she met Jasper P. and the rest is history.
